Primary care and mental health problems: community nurses encounter many patients with psychological difficulties but are often uncertain how to deal with them
Article Abstract:
Practice nurses, midwives, health visitors, school nurses and district nurses have to cope with the emotional problems of their clients, according to a review by the National Primary Care Research and Development Centre at the University of Manchester. However, although some nurses are good at determining signs of distress, others often do not recognize symptoms. Assessment is an important first step and counselling skills are significant in helping patients with emotional problems. Practice, role-play and feedback from audio or video recordings are seen as suitable methods of teaching mental health skills.

The nurse's role in treating fertility problems
Article Abstract:
Nurses have a key role in fertility teams but their functions vary in different units. Nurses may provide information to clients on the different forms of fertility treatment available. They may perform clinical procedures, including insemination with semen samples or the retrieval of embryos, and they will support couples following treatment, particularly if they do not achieve a pregnancy. Fertility nurses may have to come to terms with ethical dilemmas and they may experience professional isolation due to type of unit in which they operate.
