Primary care hit in Medicare visit work-value revision
Article Abstract:
Physicians will be reimbursed less for follow-up inpatient consultations under Medicare in 1993 because of changes in the resource-based relative value scale. The relative value units of work for office visits and consultations have been downgraded on the grounds that the amount of work performed is the same for short and long visits. The Health Care Financing Administration says that the change will motivate physicians to spend more time with patients who have serious medical problems.

Organized approach key to salary system
Article Abstract:
Three key elements comprise effective salary administration systems, and help physicians compensate their office employees fairly. First, pay differences should be logical, and tied to differences in factors such as hours worked, responsibility and educational background. Second, salaries should be competitive with those paid for similar positions in other local medical offices. Finally, job responsibilities should be clear, and performance should be objectively measured.
