Principle results of the Controlled Onset Verapamil Investigation of Cardiovascular End Points (CONVINCE) trial
Article Abstract:
Calcium channel blockers are not more effective than beta blockers or diuretics in reducing the risk of heart attack or stroke in patients with hypertension. This was the conclusion of a study of 16,602 patients, half of whom took a calcium channel blocker and half of whom took either a beta blocker or a diuretic. Most patients with hypertension should be treated with a diuretic and a beta blocker if necessary.

Clopidogrel and aspirin versus aspirin alone for the prevention of atherothrombotic events
Article Abstract:
Dual antiplatelet therapy with clopidogrel plus low-dose aspirin was studied in a broad population of patients at high risk for atherothrombotic events. It was found that clopidogrel plus aspirin was not significantly more effective than aspirin alone in reducing the rate of myocardial infarction, stroke, or death from cardiovascular causes.

Feasibility of treating prehypertension with an angiotensin-receptor blocker
Article Abstract:
A test was conducted to investigate whether pharmacologic treatment of prehypertension prevents or postpones stage 1 hypertension. Treatment of prehypertension with candesartan appeared to be well tolerated and reduced the risk of incident hypertension indicating that pharmacological treatment of hypertension is feasible.
