Probes prompt MD salary disclosure at U. of Minn
Article Abstract:
Physicians on the University of Minnesota faculty will be forced to disclose their teaching and practice earnings as part of a reorganization of the school's medical practice plans. The medical school and faculty were cited for lax management in a Jul 1993 report by Deloitte and Touche, an accounting firm. Other reforms include one practice plan per department, a reduction from 39 to a total of eight. In addition, the university will increase its oversight of the medical school and will be allowed to request an outside audit at any time.

Average Medicare fee falls
Article Abstract:
The average Medicare fee to doctors is being reduced beginning Jan 01, 1997, which is, perhaps, the first fee reduction in Medicare's history. Fees for services will be reduced 1.8% while surgical service fees will fall 1.6%. In 1994 and 1995, payments were raised up to 12% to compensate for inflation and other factors. After a required review of the resource-based relative value scale, which helps determine physician fees, the Health Care Financing Administration lowered the average fee.
