The use of oral mexiletine for the treatment of pain after peripheral nerve injury
Article Abstract:
Mexiletine reduced pain scores by 30% in patients with pain from peripheral nerve dysfunction or injury. The pain had not been controlled by other medications. Patients were asked to rate their pain on a scale of one to 10, with 10 being the most intense. One group was given 750 mg per day. The other received their usual pain medication. After one moth, the groups were reversed. Median pain scores were seven prior to receiving mexiletine and in the placebo group. After mexiletine treatment, pain was rated at four. Patients experienced only mild side effects from this oral antiarrhythmic drug.

Clinical manifestations of sarin nerve gas exposure
Article Abstract:
The symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of sarin poisoning are reviewed. Sarin was originally developed as an insecticide but was quickly adopted as a chemical weapon. It was used during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s and in the 1994-1995 Aum Shinrikyo attacks in Japan. Sarin is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor.
