Protecting vision
Article Abstract:
There are many inexpensive and effective methods to correct vision problems that commonly occur in the elderly. A 1995 study found that 37% of the residents of a nursing home had vision disorders that could have been corrected with lenses. There are many elderly people in the community who could also benefit from corrective lenses. Cataract surgery could benefit many people and laser treatment could help those with age-related macular degeneration. Better glucose control could help elderly diabetics avoid diabetic retinal diseases. Glaucoma can be detected early through regular eye exams. Adequate lighting, magnifiers and special television monitors can help those with less than perfect visual acuity.

Orbital osteoma with gaze-evoked amaurosis
Article Abstract:
The causes of painless, gaze-evoked amourosis of the right eye of three months' duration in a 54-year-old woman are discussed. Direct compression of the central retinal and medial posterior ciliary arteries and the acute increase in intraocular pressure were the main causes of obstruction of the retinochoroloidal blood flow on abduction.
