Quantitative magnetic resonance imaging of the knee: a method of measuring response to intra-articular treatments
Article Abstract:
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) seems able to distinguish between inflammation and synovial fluid increase in the knee joints of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. The MRI detected changes caused by injection of different agents designed to increase or decrease the level of synovial fluid in 16 patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Since therapies are more or less effective when used at specific points in the disease process, the MRI could be a valuable treatment tool.
