Reduction of postoperative pain: a double-blind, randomized clinical trial
Article Abstract:
Adhesive resin liners (AL) under dental amalgam fillings may be more effective against postoperative tooth sensitivity than copal varnish and glass ionomer liners (CV). Liners and varnishes seal the surface of the tooth cavity before the filling material is applied. Sixty patients received Amalgambond Plus adhesive liner or a base of Copalite copal varnish with Vitrebond glass ionomer where appropriate. Patients in the AL group reported less postoperative sensitivity than those in the CV group. Patients in the CV group were more cold-sensitive than before receiving treatment.

The performance of bonded vs. pin-retained complex amalgam restorations: a five-year clinical evaluation
Article Abstract:
Bonding a large filling with a 4-META-based resin is as effective as using self-threading pins, according to a study of 60 fillings. This is especially useful for complex amalgam fillings that replace at least one cusp.
