Article Abstract:
The sheer disparity between the advantages derived from academic-industrial research interaction and the seriousness of the attempts made by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to forbid these interactions is examined. Vast benefits are obtained from such an interaction as proved by the founding of the biotechnology industry, and hence NIH and universities are advised to encourage academic-industrial research partnerships.
