Relationship between maternal nutritional status and infant's weight and body proportions at birth
Article Abstract:
A retrospective study was done to analyze the correlation between maternal health and infant's weight and body proportions at birth. The data demonstrated that shorter and disproportionate babies are born to mothers who are young, light, short and thin. Babies who are lighter, shorter, thinner and with smaller heads were born to mothers with hemoglobin levels exceeding 12.5 g per deciliter during pregnancy. These findings are significant because birth outcome is hypothesized to be indicators of predisposition to chronic heart disease in adulthood.
