Relationship between serum lipids and dietary and non-dietary factors in a Chinese population
Article Abstract:
No relationship exists between dietary factors and serum lipids, contrary to the results of earlier studies which found weak linkages between the two. The absence of any association between serum lipids and dietary variables was revealed in a survey of 631 male and female Chinese, whose diets were assessed through food weighing and individual food records over a period of three days. Results showed low serum TC, triglyceride and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and high high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels in the Chinese population.

Assessment of sodium and potassium in processed foods in an urban area in China
Article Abstract:
Research on Na and K content in processed food in Tianjin, China shows that processed food is the main contributor of dietary Na. Processed foods and Na-containing condiments contribute to 38% total Na consumption. Identification of food products that have higher Na content and high Na:K ration is essential to decrease consumption of dietary Na. Measures such as educating people on the relationship between Na consumption and hypertension heed to be taken. Ninety-five percent of 2317 subjects aged 15-64 years responded to the survey.

Nutrient intake and use of beverages and the risk of kidney stones among male smokers
Article Abstract:
Magnesium intake and beer consumption have been shown to be inversely associated with development of kidney stones, while fiber intake was directly associated in a study on use of beverages and nutrient intake relative to the risk of kidney stones in 27,001 male smokers. The Finnish men, aged 50-69, were initially free of kidney stones and the Alpha-Tocopherol, Beta-Carotene Lung Cancer Prevention Study involved 5 years of follow-up, during which 329 men were diagnosed with kidney stones.
