Report of the working group on energy requirements of older individuals
Article Abstract:
An evaluation of research studies on energy requirements for older people is given. Changes in basal metabolism and levels of physical activity may not necessarily be consistent with the standards set for energy requirement changes for older individuals. There is a need for data that represents values for different physical activity levels (PAL) in older people. Proposed energy requirements must also be embodied into a PAL system for adults of different ages.

Report of the working group on general principles of assessing energy requirements
Article Abstract:
Recommendations on the basic principles of ascertaining energy requirements are presented. The definition of energy requirements under the 1985 Expert Consultation must be retained. In estimating the energy requirements of global population units, the factorial method must remain to be used. There is also a need for greater total energy expenditure measurements in several age ranges to assure a stronger database.
