Research Review: A regular feature looking at recent research and implications for practice
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to estimate the effectiveness of three prescribed strategies and an information leaflet for acute lower respiratory tract infection in primary care. The result revealed that the prescribed antibiotics reduced the duration of moderately bad symptoms by one day overall, and it is suggested that patients find it acceptable to be given information about their condition, and consequently use fewer antibiotics than if they receive no information.

Using audit to change practice for routine glucochecks
Article Abstract:
Two clinical audits assessing action following glucocheck results and staff education to improve follow-up are described. The audits have revealed that investigations following a raised blood sugar test are not carried out in some cases and hence the raised glucose test on admission is not indicative of the patient being diabetic.
