Rights from the start
Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom (UK) has been criticized by the Committee on the Rights of the Child which oversees the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The UK has not taken adequate steps to ensure that the social, cultural, political and economic rights of children are met. Health and education policies do not operate in the best interests of children, too many children live in poverty and those from ethnic minorities have poorer health than others. Medical personnel must do all they can to ensure that children have access to the services they need.

Till death us do part
Article Abstract:
Labour plans to tackle the issue of poverty-related ill health, challenging nurses, the health service and other agencies to work together to review old health problems. Schools, primary care settings and workplaces are identified as locations for promoting health, providing opportunities for nurses to participate. However the impending legislation also needs to promote healthy pregnancy and set goals for reducing the rate of low birthweight babies, providing an important role for midwives, health visitors and GPs.
