Article Abstract:
Safety and health professionals are facing mounting challenges to keep down costs in light of corporate efforts to lower spending to stay competitive. Budget cuts for health activities and the downsizing of its staffs seem to have de-emphasized the importance of employee health and safety and compliance with federal rules. Although safety and health staff acts as a support to line management, it often takes the blame when things go awry in employee health and safety. Health and safety professionals must show the management that a safe and healthy workplace also has economic benefits.

A new boss at OSHA
Article Abstract:
Charles Jeffress' nomination as the assistant secretary of labor for the Occupational Health and Safety (OSHA) is expected to solicit little or no criticism from the public. One of the main issues that the former North Carolina OSHA chief will seek to address is the implementation of a bill to amend the OSHAct.
