Risk factors for incident and recurrent condylomata acuminata among men: a population-based study
Article Abstract:
Multiple sex partners, drug use and a history of sexually transmitted diseases appear to be risk factors for genital warts. This was the conclusion of a survey of 179 men in the Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound who had initial or recurring genital warts, a condition called condyloma acuminata. Compared to a similar group of men without genital warts, these men were more likely to be single or divorced, have multiple sex partners, a history of syphilis, gonorrhea or genital herpes and a history of alcohol, marijuana or cocaine use.

Risk factors for incident and recurrent condylomata acuminata among women: a population-based study
Article Abstract:
Multiple sexual partners and a history of sexually transmitted disease appear to increase a woman's risk of genital warts. Researchers surveyed 94 women with newly diagnosed genital warts, a condition called condyloma acuminata, and 55 women with recurrent genital warts. Compared to 133 women with no history of genital warts, these women were more likely to be single or divorced, have multiple sexual partners, a history of any sexually transmitted disease or oral herpes and a history of allergies.
