Shared medical decision-making: Problems, process, progress
Article Abstract:
The patient-physician relationship is the sacrosanct epitome of professionalism with the goals of ensuring that patients receive the treatment best for them and that the best treatment is carried out in the most efficient and compassionate manner. Shared medical decision making really does not pertain to sharing choices, but rather involves sharing information and proper communication.

Progress Toward Eliminating Haemophilus influenzae Type b Disease Among Infants and Children-United States, 1987-1997
Article Abstract:
The incidence of childhood infection with Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) has fallen dramatically since a vaccine was developed in 1988. Since that time, the incidence of Hib infection in children under the age of 5 has dropped 99%. However, 280 cases occurred in 1996 and 258 in 1997. Many of the children had not been vaccinated or had not received a booster shot.

Progress in resuscitation
Article Abstract:
A new approach that emphasizes the procedure to be followed for cardio-pulmonary resuscitation that may benefit the patient is discussed. It involves the use of chest compressions to enhance the tissue oxygen delivery.
