Signs of genital prolapse in a Swedish population of women 20 to 59 years of age and possible related factors
Article Abstract:
Many women have genital prolapse but very few have symptoms. Genital prolapse occurs when the bladder, uterus, or rectum protrude into the vagina. Doctors gave pelvic exams to 487 women and found that 31% had genital prolapse but only 2% had serious cases that might require surgery. Among women who had had children, 44% had genital prolapse. The number of children, their birthweights and the strength of the pelvic muscles were linked to genital prolapse but the woman's weight was not.

Can we screen for pelvic organ prolapse without a physical examination in epidemiologic studies?
Article Abstract:
A simple screening question for pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is developed and its test characteristics in high and low prevalence populations are evaluated. It is concluded that in groups with a high prior probability of POP, the simple screening question could accurately screen for advanced POP without a physical examination.

The depth of the pouch of Douglas in nulliparous and parous women without genital prolapse and in patients with genital prolapse
