Signs of the times
Article Abstract:
Managing change in the UK's National Health Service needs to be continually reviewed, otherwise ideas are simply recycled. It is essential that care of patients is at the centre of organisational change and that health care professionals are allowed to influence how services are organised. Too often, staff feel undervalued and are unclear about how decisions are made. This stems from a fundamental fault with the way that changes are evaluated.

Global action: public health care should encompass more than screening and disease management
Article Abstract:
Nurses realise that applying clinical knowledge alone does not promote optimum health and that focusing on people is an important contribution to health care. Nursing models see the person as an active partner but those working in hospital settings may lose sight of the social context in which people live. They need to develope strategies to address the social and environmental causes of ill health.
