Sleep experts: Oklahoma trauma may linger into the night
Article Abstract:
Many of the emergency workers who responded to the Apr 19, 1995, bombing of Oklahoma City's Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building may not have slept for at least the first day following the tragedy. But stress would be unlikely to disrupt such workers' sleep for more than a day, according to Dr. Claudio Stampi of the Institute for Circadian Physiology. He noted that preliminary results indicate that three hours of sleep per day may be enough for individuals in crisis situations.

Wake-up call: a move to boost awareness of fatigue-induced auto accidents and other sleep-related problems
Article Abstract:
The problem of fatigue-related traffic accidents is seriously underestimated, according to the National Sleep Foundation (NSF). Sleepiness is underreported as a cause of accidents and its role in exacerbating the effects of alcohol is not fully appreciated. NSF has launched a campaign to educate the public in the dangers of driving while tired. Several automotive technologies are being developed to improve traffic safety.

Jet lag may hamper west-to-east baseball teams
Article Abstract:
Researchers have found that jet lag may account for the 'home field advantage' of East coast baseball teams. West coast teams travelling to the East coast lost more games and scored less runs, whereas East coast teams travelling west showed no significant disparity. Jet lag may impair sports performance, but researchers could not identify specific weaknesses in fielding, hitting or pitching.
