Sleep patterns in young babies
Article Abstract:
Up to 50% of babies suffer from problems associated with sleeping patterns, and this may be connected with the response of parents to interrupted sleep or to physiological difficulties in sleeping. A health professional may be able to help parents establish a routine which helps the baby learn the difference between night and day and therefore develop a proper sleeping pattern. Research has found a difference in the way sleep disorders are dealt with in different countries, such as Japan, where co-sleeping is encouraged and less children have sleep problems.

The young ones
Article Abstract:
Children who are carers for relatives or friends are a vulnerable, but often hidden, group. Over 40,000 children in the UK care for someone who is sick or disabled, usually a parent. Many children are proud of their caring role and can be resistant to support, particularly if they fear a break up of the family. However, child carers can also face issues of stress, isolation and lack of information. Nurses should identify child carers, be aware of the difficulties they face, and be prepared to offer a means of support.
