Smoking cessation in pregnancy
Article Abstract:
The problems associated with smoking in pregnancy are highlighted by Poswillo and Alberman, which include ectopic pregnancy, vomiting and generally feeling unwell, low birth-weight baby, with increased risks to the child's health and increased risk of infant death syndrome, SIDS or 'cot death'. Some important strategies to help women give up smoking are presented.

Smoking as a coping strategy
Article Abstract:
The use of smoking as a method of dealing with stress is described. Methods of educating smokers about the psychological effects of smoking and how smoking can heighten stress are described, as well as suggestions for alternate methods of coping with stress.

Nursing guidelines for helping patients stop smoking are presented. The smoking cessation program offered by the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is presented and a newly published guide is offered.
