Both self-help and medical cures are available that may prevent snoring, which afflicts men 10 times more often than women. Techniques include elevating one's head, not sleeping on one's back, losing weight, avoiding sleeping pills, cutting back on alcohol, clearing nasal congestion and blocking outside noise.

Sleep deprivation and sleeping disorders can seriously effect performance, health and attitude. Tips for falling asleep, sleeping through the night and avoiding waking up too early are suggested, including exercise, avoiding naps, avoiding eating just before bedtime and maintaining a sleep schedule.

Research indicates that the 2 million Americans who have obstructive sleep apnea are at risk of dying of heart disease. Sleep apnea is a treatable condition and all heart patients should be tested for it.
