Spain's ill-conceived project leaves its scientists in the lurch
Article Abstract:
The Spanish government project, the Ramon y Cajal (RyC) that was launched to lure young African American scientists working abroad and boost Spain's ailing research system left most scientists in the lurch without any long-term possibilities. Enticed by the chance to be back in their home country, thousands of researchers left permanent or tenure-track position in other countries to return to Spain, but two months before the end of first set of contracts, many RyCs, found themselves without any long-term possibilities.
