Statins as a newly recognized type of immunomodulator
Article Abstract:
Statins were found to directly inhibit induction of major histocompatibility complex class II (MHC-II) expression via interferon gamma (IFN-gamma), and thereby act as repressors of T-cell activation mediated by MHC-II. Implications for the use of statins as immunosuppressors in organ transplantation and other pathologies are discussed.

Immunomodulation: a new role for statins?
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that chronic inflammatory diseases may be successfully treated with statins, which inhibit the expression of the class II major histocompatibility complex (MHCII). This leads to a reduction in T-cell response, suggesting that conditions such as graft atherosclerosis can be affected by this process.

Statins: lower lipids and better bones?
Article Abstract:
Research presented concerns the use of statins, agents found in cholesterol-lowering drugs, to stimulate bone formation. The physiological aspects of the interaction between osteoblasts and statins are described, and the implications for osteoporosis sufferers are examined.
