Stop, look and listen to the worker
Article Abstract:
Studies show that most work-related accidents are preventable if employees participate actively in safety programs. It is possible to motivate employees to follow safety rules if the correct incentive is given. This would take different forms, from persuasion to bullying. Feedback from those who know the hazards best, namely the employees, also contribute to the development of an effective, flexible safety program. Management is responsible for ensuring that all possible causes for investigation, no matter how trivial, are considered to neutralize any potential risk.

Rear safety belts deserve front-seat attention
Article Abstract:
Car passengers who sit in the back are inclined to take for granted the protection afforded by seat belts. Riding in the back seats is about 50% safer than riding in front seats, but the risks of serious injuries to passengers during collisions are still considerable. Usage of seat belts in back seats will lessen the probability of serious injuries by 26%. This would translate to preventing about 10,000 serious injuries and 660 less fatalities annually in the US. Three-point belts are recommended since they offer greater protection.

Everbody wins when employees exercise restraints
Article Abstract:
An increasing number of people are becoming aware of the benefits of using safety belts. Studies show that motor-vehicle accidents are the leading cause of work-related deaths and lost work hours. In addition, employers lose over $23 billion annually due to these accidents. A combination of safety campaign efforts and regulations implemented by private companies, federal agencies and community and business organizations have successfully promoted safety belt use among the public.
