Study downgrades amniocentesis risk
Article Abstract:
A study suggests that the invasive procedure of amniocentesis to detect chromosomal abnormalities in a fetus might cause a smaller risk of miscarriage than thought earlier. Improved techniques such as ultrasound-guided amniocentesis, greater experience and skill among clinicians performing the procedure might have caused its perceived improved safety.

Animal-human diseases targeted to stop pandemics before they start
Article Abstract:
One of the major challenges facing scientists trying to prevent transmission of infectious diseases from animals to humans is predicting where and when these transmissions would occur. It also has put the world on notice that despite advances in medicine, sanitation, and public health, humans remain vulnerable to pandemics of new diseases.
