Nationalized dentistry
Article Abstract:
Dentists who worked within the UK's National Health Service (NHS) general dental services examined and treated patients to make them generally fit, were entitled to payments under a predetermined fee scale, agreed upon bu an autonomous committee of the British Dental Association and the governement before April 2006. Since April 2007, this system was scrapped and locally formed agreements were enforced without talks with the dental profession. Dentists who wish to provide NHS dentistry must negotiate with a local health agency and bid to come up with units of dental activity at a pre-agreed fee per unit.
