Substance abuse and work
Article Abstract:
Employers must ensure an adequate risk assessment policy is in place to detect workers who may be abusing alcohol or drugs at work. The human resources department is the focus for such a policy, with all members being trained to recognise the signs of substance abuse. Treatment options can be suggested to the worker if actively seeking help for a substance abuse problem, although the employer may have no alternative than to dismiss a worker who fails to curb or address an abuse problem.
