Superantigen antagonist protects against lethal shock and defines a new domain for T-cell activation
Article Abstract:
Researchers describe a peptide that blocks the expression of cytokines triggered by bacterial superantigens. When given to mice, the peptide prevented toxic shock and even rescued mice in the initial stages of toxic shock. The mice also developed protective antibodies against superantigen.

Neutralization of staphylococcal enterotoxin B by soluble, high-affinity receptor antagonists
Article Abstract:
The engineering of a T-cell receptor variable[beta] region to generate picomolar-affinity receptor antagonists of staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB) which could neutralize the potent toxin SEB and help to treat the diseases mediated by bacterial superantigens is described.

Will therapeutic peptides be kryptonite for superantigens?
Article Abstract:
Researchers have discovered a dodecapeptide that can block the massive immune stimulation caused by bacterial superantigens such as toxic shock syndrome toxin 1. However, the study was done in mice, and humans may be more susceptible to these bacterial toxins than mice.
