Superior compliance and efficacy of continuous combined oral estrogen-progestogen replacement therapy in postmenopausal women
Article Abstract:
Women taking continuous combined hormone replacement therapy may comply better with treatment than women taking sequential estrogen progestogen replacements because they did not experience menstrual bleeding. Researchers compared the number of women who continued with therapy (compliance), elimination of menopausal symptoms, and bone loss in 140 women taking either continuous combined hormone replacement therapy or sequential hormone replacement therapy. The continuous combined treatment, consisting of the hormones estradiol, estriol, and norethisterone acetate, was more effective at preventing bone loss than the sequential hormone therapy. Both treatments relieved menopausal symptoms. Thirty-nine percent of women in the study dropped out, mostly because of irregular bleeding.

Urogenital aging - creation of improved awareness
Article Abstract:
Postmenopausal women and their physicians need to know that some disorders caused by urogenital aging are treatable. Aging affects the urinary tract and the vagina and can lead to dryness, itching, pain during sexual intercourse, incontinence and recurring urinary tract infections. Some of these symptoms are caused by estrogen deficiency and can be treated with hormone replacement therapy. However, many women are embarrassed to talk about such matters and their physicians may not be aware of the benefits of hormone replacement therapy.
