Mgr Dir of BOC Group Deb Chatterji is responsible for ensuring high environmental standards during the manufacture and distribution of the group's products worldwide. The group has developed an environmental and a hazards control programme coordinated by the GEPC (Group Environmental Protection Council.) The group encourages each businees unit to develop its own strategy. It provides a newsletter, a central database of international and national environmental legislation and a guidebook. The BOC Foundation was set up in 1990 with initial funding of 1 million pounds sterling to sponsor environmental programmes.

Hempton is an Emmy award-winning audio engineer who specializes in recording the subtle sounds of nature. In his PBS program 'Vanishing Dawn Chorus,' Hempton traveled to six continents to capture the sounds of dawn. He gives tips on how to find quiet places and open up to natural sounds.
