TUC backs injury victims bill
Article Abstract:
The UK government's Social Security (Recovery of Benefits) Bill would ensure that people who successfully claim compensation for workplace injuries would not be obliged to return benefit payments out of any general damages awarded. The Bill has gained the support of the TUC, which claims that victims of workplace injuries are losing out on large sums of money because they are under pressure to settle for compensation settlements of less than 1,500 pounds sterling. The TUC is calling on MPs and peers to support the Bill.

Back to backs
Article Abstract:
Back belts, otherwise known as back supports or abdominal belts, are increasingly being used to help prevent injury when lifting. The US National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) does not recommend the use of back belts for those who have never been injured, as there is insufficient evidence to support that they can reduce the risk of back injury. The text of the NIOSH booklet 'Back belts - do they prevent injury?' is provided.
