Taking steps to reduce violence
Article Abstract:
The NHS Security Management Service (SMS) reported a decrease of 2.8% in physical attacks on NHS staff between 2005 and 2006. The introduction of specially trained security personnel, a national drive to train NHS staff in conflict resolution, and the increase in prosecutions of perpetrators, have helped to reduce the violence, while further measures are also being developed by the government to deal with violent patients, relatives, or carers.

Is local A and E a thing of the past?
Article Abstract:
Acute hospital 'reconfigurations' will be launched in the NHS in 2007, resulting in the closure of many A&E departments across England. One of the significant reasons for closing emergency units comes from the government's white paper 'Our Health, Our Care, Our Say', which states that PCTs must provide more care in the community.
