Teens in the summer workforce
Article Abstract:
An estimated 80% of American teenagers work in hotels, movie theaters, retail stores, construction, warehouses and factories for pay in their high school years. Since 1992 and 2000 an average of 67 workers under 18 years die of work related injuries. A particular concern of safety of teenagers when handling forklifts is discussed. The Fair Labor standards Act prohibits teenagers handling forklifts in non agricultural employment. Guidance by the employer is necessitated.
