Thailand and the compulsory licensing of efavirenz
Article Abstract:
Merck, which has a patent for efavirenz drug in Thailand, has objected to Thailand's unilateral action of issuing the compulsory license for the efavirenz drug and wants the Thais to consider other options of buying efavirenz at lower price or it might provide a voluntary license for the production of a generic version similar to South Africa. Thailand has placed an order for efavirenz with Ranbaxy, a large Indian pharmaceutical company as an interim measure while its Government Pharmaceutical Organization is testing the bioequivalence of the generic efavirenz that has already formulated.

Patients with multiple chronic conditions - how many medications are enough?
Article Abstract:
Researchers in Canada determined that elderly patients undergoing treatment for chronic diseases, such as diabetes and emphysema, are likely to be undertreated for other medical conditions. This may reflect a concern for prescribing multiple medications, with attendant side effects, insufficient time for office visits, or other factors. In the US, where prescription medications generally require some out-of-pocket expense to patients, this problem may be more severe. Research may determine which factors influence undertreatment, and how they might be corrected.
