Does this patient have hypertension? How to measure blood pressure
Article Abstract:
Blood pressure is an important health indicator that must be measured accurately. High blood pressure is a common, symptomless condition that leads to heart disease and reduces life expectancy. Blood pressure readings of 140/90 millimeters of mercury or higher indicate high blood pressure. Because people's blood pressure fluctuates over time, measurements taken during different medical appointments tend to be more accurate than readings taken during the same visit. Blood pressure increases in some people while they are in a physician's office. The blood pressure equipment, the examiner, and the procedure may also account for variability in blood pressure readings. Clinicians should check their blood pressure equipment regularly, periodically review blood pressure training techniques, and adhere to published guidelines to maintain accurate readings.
