The continuing effectiveness of active management of first labor, despite a doubling in overall nulliparous cesarean delivery
Article Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine the continuing effectiveness of active management of labor, a protocol that involves early detection and correction of dystocia with oxytocin in spontaneous cephalic nulliparous labor. The results of this study show that the protocol of active management of labor remains effective in nulliparous women in spontaneous labor in a setting in which the total nulliparous cesarean birth rate has doubled in 12 years.

Randomized clinical trial of intra-anal electromyographic biofeedback augmented with electrical stimulation of the anal sphincter in the early treatment of postpartum fecal incontinence
Article Abstract:
The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of intra-anal electromyographic biofeedback alone to intra-anal biofeedback with electrical stimulation of the anal sphincter in the treatment of symptoms of postpartum fecal incontinence. Intra-anal electromyographic biofeedback therapy was associated with improved continence and quality of life in women with altered fecal continence after delivery.

A randomized clinical trial comparing primary overlap with approximation repair of third-degree obstetric tears
Article Abstract:
Overlap repair and approximation repair of tears to the anal sphincter provide the same outcome, according to a study of 112 women. Vaginal delivery often tears the anal sphincter, especially in women who have had an episiotomy.
