Infections in patients with diabetes mellitus
Article Abstract:
Diabetics have a higher risk of infection than many other people. This is partly because diabetes can alter the immune system. Respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and soft tissue infections are more common in diabetics. In addition, some types of infections occur almost exclusively in diabetics. These infections include invasive otitis externa, rhinocerebral mucormycosis, cholecystitis, pyelonephritis, and cystitis. Diabetes also seems to predispose people to infections with certain bacteria, including group B streptococci, Klebsiella, Salmonella, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

The association between sleep apnea and the risk of traffic accidents
Article Abstract:
People who suffer from sleep apnea may have a higher risk of traffic accidents. People with sleep apnea stop breathing temporarily several times during the night. This can cause sleep deficit and daytime drowsiness. Researchers analyzed the rate of sleep apnea among 102 drivers treated at a hospital after a traffic accident and 152 people not involved in a traffic accident. Those with sleep apnea were six times more likely to have a traffic accident than those without sleep apnea.
