The effect of high dietary n-3 fatty acid supplementation on angiotensin II pressor response in human pregnancy
Article Abstract:
Fish oil supplements appear to increase a pregnant woman's resistance to increasing blood pressure. A test that measures a threshold response to angiotensin II, a hormone that increases blood pressure, was performed on 10 healthy pregnant women. The test was repeated 28 days after they took fish oil capsules three times daily. The amount of angiotensin II required to raise their blood pressure to threshold levels was lower before taking the fish oil supplements than after taking the supplements. There were no serious side effects associated with the fish oil supplements.

Alterations in the baroreflex occur late in pregnancy in conscious rabbits
Article Abstract:
Reductions in the sensitivity of the baroreceptor reflex may not occur until late pregnancy. The pregnancy-related change in the baroreceptor reflex may lower blood pressure during hemorrhage. Researchers assessed baroreflex responses before and throughout the pregnancies of rabbits. The maximum sensitivity of the baroreflex decreased in the latter half of pregnancy while the minimum heart rate increased. These changes may be caused by a hormone or by changes in blood volume toward the end of pregnancy.

Role of angiotensin II in altered baroreflex function of conscious rabbits during late pregnancy
Article Abstract:
Angiotensin II does not increase heart rate during pregnancy, according to a study in rabbits. This indicates that angiotensin II, a hormone in the body, is not involved in the alteration of baroreflex control of the heart that occurs in pregnancy.
