The effect of magnesium supplementation on biochemical markers of bone metabolism or blood pressure in healthy young adult females
Article Abstract:
A rise in magnesium (Mg) intake in healthy young women above the normal dietary intake does not affect blood pressure or the rate of bone turnover. It is possible that Mg supplementation uncouples the processes of bone formation and bone resorption in some way. Increasing Mg intake does not reduce the risk of fracture in later life. It does not appear that habitually low intakes of Mg lead to abnormal Mg metabolism.
