The ethics and politics of compulsory HPV vaccination
Article Abstract:
Michigan lawmakers' decision to propose compulsory vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) for girls entering sixth grade ignited a new round of polarizing debates and controversy among some religious conservatives and bioethicists. Any new vaccine that a state adds to its list of requirements must be judged in the context of both the increasingly lengthy and complex regimen of vaccines that children receive and the possibility that additional mandates might provoke grassroots opposition, be it religious, philosophical or ideological.

The FDA and the case of Ketek
Article Abstract:
The assessment of the FDA acceptance exposed fraudulent safety data and wrong trial techniques used for the reviewing the drug, Ketek (telithromycin), considered to be the first of a new type of antimicrobial agents that avoids antibiotic resistance. A former FDA physician involved in the Ketek review describes the procedure of the approval of the drug, an investigation of the entire episode and the lessons learnt from it.
