The impact of insurance coverage on children's dental visits and expenditures, 1996
Article Abstract:
Medicaid coverage will not necessarily ensure that children will get the dental care they need. According to data from the 1996 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey, 56% of children with private insurance made at least one visit to a dentist that year, but only 28% of children covered by Medicaid visited a dentist.

Dental services: use, expenditures and sources of payment, 1987
Article Abstract:
Only 42% of Americans visited a dentist in 1987, and even fewer poor Americans and ethnic minorities sought dental care. Americans generated $30 billion in dental expenses that year, of which a third was paid by insurers and $17 billion was paid out-of-pocket by the patient. The potential market for dental services is much larger than that which is currently being reached by dentists.
