The persistence of memory
Article Abstract:
A study suggests a new way of thinking about memory deficits in patients with Alzheimer's disease and hints at new therapeutic opportunities. It demonstrates that the memory deficit in mice can be largely resolved by the overexpression of a second protease, a modified version of ubiquitin carboxy-terminal hydrolase L1 (UCHL1), which can breach the blood-brain barrier and the neuronal membrane and can thus be injected into the peritoneum of mice.

Early Alzheimer's disease
Article Abstract:
The diagnosis and treatment of patients who are in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease are reviewed. There are no blood tests for Alzheimer's disease but there are mental status tests that patients can take. Patients who are experiencing memory loss may have to be referred to a neuropsychologist for more extensive testing.
