The urge to merge
Article Abstract:
Many physicians seek to form group practices as a means of remaining competitive with managed care health services providers. Merging medical practices requires careful planning to be successful. Establishment of a common purpose among partners is essential for planning a merger. Consultants recommend that physicians considering forming a group ask themselves a number of important questions to facilitate planning. The foremost in importance is to know why they want to merge.

Pop! goes the consulting bill; a contract that spells out exactly what you get for what you pay can help prevent nasty budget surprises when hiring an attorney, consultant or accountant
Article Abstract:
It is important for new physicians to set up a contract when hiring a consultant. Competitive bids should be accepted from several firms and then an engagement letter should be drawn up when a consultant is selected. The letter will define the principal/agent relationship and the conditions of the contract. Additional charges that result in the lack of a definite contract may delay the establishment of the practice and a loss in the physician's marketplace.
