The use of surrogate gestational carriers for assisted reproductive technologies
Article Abstract:
There is no difference in the pregnancy rate of surrogate mothers when an embryo is implanted in the uterus or the fertilized egg is implanted in the fallopian tube. Surrogate carriers were randomly assigned to one of two groups. In one group, 20 surrogates had embryos implanted in their uteri and in the other group, 18 had the fertilized egg implanted in their fallopian tube. Eggs or embryos were implanted after synchronization of the egg donor's and the surrogate's ovulatory cycles. If synchronization was not achieved, eggs were collected, fertilized and then frozen before implantation during the appropriate point in the surrogate's cycle. Altogether, 45 infertile couples had 81 treatment cycles. There were 19 pregnancies and 15 (33%) produced delivered or ongoing pregnancies. The pregnancy rate from implantation in the fallopian tube was similar to that from implantation in the uterus. Thus, there is no justification for the additional surgery required by fallopian transfer.

Embryo fragmentation as a determinant of blastocyst development in vitro and pregnancy outcomes following embryo transfer
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to determine how the type of embryo fragmentation on day 3 affects progression of human embryos to blastocyst and pregnancy rates following embryo transfer. The results indicate that more pervasive embryo fragmentation is associated with a decreasing rate of blastocyst development with day 3 embryos.

Determinants of the outcome of intrauterine insemination: analysis of outcomes of 9963 consecutive cycles
Article Abstract:
Younger women who have more than one ovarian follicle are the most likely to conceive after intrauterine insemination. This was the conclusion of a study of 3,200 women who had this procedure. Conception was also more likely if there were more than 4 million sperm in the sample with a motility greater than 60%.
