Landing the first job after qualifying as a nurse is becoming increasingly difficult and has resulted in students having to take steps to make their resume's stand out. It is very important for students to think smart and be proactive by being aware of what the government changes are in terms of healthcare delivery and also knowing and learning about the new policies that come out.

Newly-qualified nurses often find it difficult to move directly into the primary care field but a new program in Cornwall, England may change that. Six new nurses were given 12 month contracts at one of three primary care trusts and were assigned an experienced nurse as a preceptor who would guide them. The nurses have done well and the program is expanding.
