Therapeutic targeting of innate immunity with toll-like receptor agonists and antagonists
Article Abstract:
The identification of antigen recognition receptors for innate immunity, most notably the Toll-like receptors, has sparked great interest in therapeutic manipulation of the innate immune system. These Toll-like receptors can be used to treat diseases like cancer, viral infections, allergies, and adjuvants for potent new vaccines to prevent or treat cancer and infectious diseases.

Anthrax delivers a lethal blow to host immunity
Article Abstract:
Bacillus anthracis, the causative agent of anthrax, produces a tripartite toxin that can kill experimental animals and cause shock-like symptoms resembling those seen in the disease. It is found that Anthrax toxin is known to impair key signaling pathways, but exactly how does this damage the body or benefit the bacterium are analyzed.

Attacking pain at its source: new perspectives on opioids
Article Abstract:
Opioids are the most powerful drugs for severe acute and chronic pain, but their widespread use is hampered by side effects. A new generation of opioid drugs is now emerging which activates opioid receptors outside the central nervous system, thus avoiding all centrally-mediated, unwanted effects.
