Bone marrow failure asociated with human herpesvirus 8 infection after transplantation
Article Abstract:
Human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8) can cause bone marrow failure in patients with suppressed immune systems. This happened to two patients, one of whom received a bone marrow transplant from an HHV-8-infected donor, and one of whom was already infected and received a stem cell transplant that reactivated his infection.

Post-transplant kaposi sarcoma originates from the seeding of donor-derived progenitors
Article Abstract:
This article describes kaposi sarcoma-associated human herpesvirus 8-positive post-transplant kaposi sarcoma as an example of a virus-associated tumor transmitted through transplantation. Data indicate that some virus-infected neoplastic cells in post-transplant harbor eiher genetic or antigenic markers of the donors.

Transient angiolymphoid hyperplasia and Kaposi's sarcoma after primary infection with human herpesvirus 8 in a patient with human immunodeficiency virus infection
Article Abstract:
The case of a 43-year-old HIV patient illustrates that human herpesvirus 8 can cause an acute illness that may resolve completely without causing Kaposi's sarcoma. This virus has consistently been isolated from Kaposi's sarcoma tumor samples in HIV patients. This patient became ill with fever, joint pain and enlarged lymph nodes. Within 8 weeks, the lymph nodes returned to normal and he had no more symptoms. Analysis of blood samples taken before and after the illness revealed that he had seroconverted to HHV-8 during that time and the virus was detected in lymph node biopsy samples.
