Regression of metastatic renal-cell carcinoma after nonmyeloablative allogeneic peripheral-blood stem-cell transplantation
Article Abstract:
Results demonstrate that in patients who did not respond to immunotherapy, transplantation of nonmyeloablative allogeneic peripheral-blood stem-cells induce sustained regression of metastatic renal-cell carcinoma. Metastatic disease regression was observed in ten out of nineteen patients tested with three showing complete and seven showing partial response. Regression of metastases was delayed up to 129 days after transplantation after the withdrawal of cyclosporine.

Treatment of chronic granulomatous disease with nonmyeloablative conditioning and a T-cell-depleted hematopoietic allograft
Article Abstract:
A hematopoietic stem cell transplant that has been depleted of T cells may be beneficial in treating an immunodeficiency disease called chronic granulomatous disease. Depleting the stem cells of T cells reduces the risk of graft-versus-host disease. Ten patients who received this treatment also received chemotherapy that was less damaging to bone marrow.

Hepatitis-associated aplastic anemia
Article Abstract:
Aplastic anemia that follows hepatitis does not appear to be linked to any known hepatitis viruses. Aplastic anemia is a failure of the bone marrow that causes a drop in blood levels of many important blood cells. Researchers at the National Institutes of Health examined 10 patients who were referred to the NIH with hepatitis-associated aplastic anemia. All 10 tested negative for hepatitis viruses A, B and C. Three tested positive for hepatitis GB virus C but they had received blood transfusions. All were treated with immunosuppressive drugs and seven survived.
